It's Earthday Everyday!
It's Earth Day today! What can we do to help the Earth? How can we make our lives more sustainable? What can one person do when there are so many things to do? One of the things I've started doing is a project to protect the Oriental-Pied Hornbill in China. Our project is trying to protect this large beautiful bird and it's dwindling habitat. Come check out our project website and blog to see what we do.
What are some things you do, or could do, to help make a better, more sustainable world?

World Health Day- Urbanization and Health
Today is World Health Day. This year, the World Health Organization(WHO)'s annual campaign is called "1000 Cities, 1000 Lives". It looks at how the urban environment affects both our collective and individual health. Read this article and leave a comment answering the question "Why does the world need the WHO?".

Margaret Moth
Maragert Moth photo from 3 News
Have you ever heard of Margaret Moth? I hadn't heard of her before today either, but, after learning about her, I realized I knew her through the pictures and videos she made as a camerawoman for CNN. She led a very exciting life, full of adventure. She saw so many important events that shaped history. She risked her life to show those events to the world. Maragaret Moth just passed away from cancer, she was only 59 years old. Learn more about her here.
Your assignment, everyone, is to introduce an interesting person, from current events, in your blog. Include their photo and two links. Read mine, and others' articles, and comment.

Hainan is an amazing place with lots of chances for fun and adventure. Everyday there we will do something unusual and unforgettable. We will meet great people, see beautiful places, and eat delicious food. What more can you want?
This article is about university students doing an activity at Dongzhaingang, the mangrove swamp we will visit.
This article is about the Li people of Hainan and their ethnobotanical culture, or how and why they use plants.
You can learn more about Hainan and conservation in South China by reading the Living Forests.

I love vegetarian food!!!
I have a small section on here about vegetarian food. I only have one veg restaurant review there and still hope to add many more. However, after reading this CNNgo article about Doufu Mafia Blog, I think it might just be pointless. Doufu Mafia has an amazing veg food blog and it covers HONG KONG! Rahul, whatcha think of DAT? I'm heading to the veg Japanese place in Mongok ASAP; they've even got veg sashimi!!

Happy Year of the Tiger
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! We are in Jiangxi with Nancy's family for the holiday. It's been very busy, with many huge meals with Nancy's huge family. Today's meal had about 100 people. It was really cold and rainy around the new year, but now it's nice. I hope to do a little traveling on my way back to Guangzhou. Everyone should add a blog entry to your site to let everyone know what you are up to and to show me you are a good student. Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Haiti Earthquake Aftermath
The Plight of Haiti
On January 12, 2010 a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti. The epicenter was 25 miles north of the Capital, Port-au-Prince. It immediately destroyed much of the city, with tens of thousands of buildings collapsing or toppeling over, killing at least 150,000 people. Many people were trapped, some have been rescued, while many died in the concrete ruins and rubble. In the beginning, rescue and relief efforts were severely hampered by damaged infrastructure such as the port, airports, and highways. Ships could not deliver cargo, some flights could not land, and many roads were impassible. Since the quake, dozens of countries, organizations, and individuals have given money, supplies, and people to help in the resuce and recovery. There are thousands of stories of sorrow and pain, but hopefully more and more stories of hope and life will emerge from this tragedy.
